Environmental Technologist


Job Summary


Under the direction of the Alberta Operations Responsible Care Leader, the Environmental Technologist has the following responsibilities.


Key Responsibilities



  • Support environmental compliance reporting internally and externally to Alberta Environment and Parks, Alberta Energy Regulator, and Environment and Climate Change Canada.

  • Day-to-day management of the Fort Saskatchewan site Fugitive Emissions monitoring program.

  • Create, implement, and manage an environmental field auditing program for Alberta Operations sites.

  • Support site stack sampling program for Alberta Operations. This includes field audits, contractor management, technical reviews, and regulatory reporting support.

  • Act as Dow Job Representative for environmental contractors.

  • Participate in and provide data for internal and external environmental self-assessments and audits.

  • Initiate and support Management of Change (MOC) for environmental matters, as necessary.

  • Support evaluation and implementation of legislative/regulatory changes on Dow sites/locations.

  • Additional responsibilities will be considered based on the successful candidate’s experience and on needs to balance the work load within Alberta Operations Environmental Regulatory team.


Required Qualifications



  • A diploma or a degree in applicable area (e.g. Chemical or Environmental Technologist, Environmental Science degree, etc.).

  • A minimum of 3 years Environmental or Dow related experience is preferred. [Highlighted portion is for Internal posting]

  • A minimum of 3 years relevant industrial experience is preferred.

  • Previous experience with regulatory reporting or regulatory agency experience would be an asset.

  • Stack sampling experience is an asset.  


Physical Requirements



  • Walk for extended periods of time.

  • Work at heights, climb stairs and ladders.

  • Wear all required personal protective equipment, including but not limited to, a respirator.

  • Work in an area of intense or continuous noise.

  • Work in an area with hazardous materials.


Education Requirements



  • A diploma or a degree in applicable area (e.g. Chemical or Environmental Technologist, Environmental Science degree, etc.) is required.

  • Be proficient in computers to perform job tasks. Strong Microsoft Excel skills are an asset.

  • Initiative and strong interest in multidisciplinary work.

  • Have strong interpersonal, facilitative, and organizational skills.

  • Effectively interacts with multiple functions and diverse individuals to achieve goals.

  • Demonstrates excellent decision making skills and the ability to prioritize appropriately.

  • Demonstrate leadership skills – inspire others and lead them through influence.

  • Able to work independently as well as in a team environment.
