What’s a typical day as a Highway Safety & Impaired Driving Instructor SME?
You will:
- Develop and update lesson plans and course content for DUI, drug-impaired driving, and general highway safety programs
- Create instructor resources and curriculum materials
- Design and implement practical training exercises and assessments
- Evaluate, critique, and improve instructional delivery to maximize training effectiveness
- Serve as the subject matter expert in drug recognition, drug trends, youth drug use, distracted and fatigued driving, and related crash factors
- Provide guidance on adult learning principles and instructional methodologies
- Collaborate with the DPS Impaired Driving Coordinator and Division Chief to tailor training to Arizona’s evolving needs
- Ensure all training aligns with national standards (including the Drug Evaluation and Classification Program – DECP)
- Support program coordination and statewide instructor development for DECP activities
- Produce reports and recommendations for ongoing program enhancement
This job might be an outstanding fit if you have:
- At least 10 years of prior sworn law enforcement experience
- Experience designing and developing lesson plans and law enforcement curriculum
- A current IACP credential/certification (International Association of Chiefs of Police)
- (Preferred) Business program management experience
- (Preferred) Experience coordinating training programs
