Experienced U.S. Income Tax Professional (Energy Industry Focus)
Location: Houston, TX 77079 (Energy Corridor)
Assignment Type: Long-Term Contract
Pay Rate: $45– $60 per hour (DOE)


High-Level Description
Kelly® is seeking an experienced and motivated U.S. Income Tax Professional to support a top energy client’s U.S. Tax Department. In this role, you will ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax requirements while streamlining processes for efficiency and conducting detailed tax analyses to optimize the company’s tax position. The primary emphasis is on tax compliance, but your expertise will also support diverse U.S. Income Tax reporting responsibilities.


Specific Accountabilities

  • Prepare federal corporate and partnership income tax returns.

  • Complete foreign information tax returns and assist with Subpart F and GILTI calculations.

  • Prepare state income and franchise tax returns (separate and combined) for multiple entities.

  • Support state apportionment calculation preparation and review.

  • Participate in estimated federal and state income/franchise tax computations.

  • Use tax depreciation systems to perform property-related tax calculations.

  • Help recognize, evaluate, and integrate new technology to improve tax processes.

  • Assist with the preparation and review of consolidated income tax returns.

  • Monitor and analyze tax legislation, rules, and regulations to identify potential impacts.

  • Participate in effective tax rate computations, true-ups, and income tax provision support.

  • Work with Oracle Cloud, HFM, and other accounting systems to ensure accurate and compliant data reporting.

  • Prepare balanced, audit-ready tax workpapers and maintain records on the Income Tax SharePoint.

  • Contribute to the e-filing process for all federal/state income tax returns.

Scope/Dimensions

  • Bring advanced U.S. tax compliance skills and a problem-solving approach to challenging technical assignments.

  • Support a complex U.S./Canadian sandwich entity structure, ensuring all income tax deadlines are met.

  • Leverage strong communication and research skills to advise cross-functional teams and translate complex tax issues for non-tax professionals.

Working Relationships

  • Report directly to the Tax Manager.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across entities, U.S. accounting, and regulatory departments.

  • Engage with external stakeholders and offer mentorship to other team members.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or a related discipline.

  • CPA and/or graduate degree preferred.

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in income tax, ideally within the energy sector.

  • Robust knowledge of federal, foreign, and state income tax regulations.

  • In-depth understanding of tax accounting.

  • Proficiency with Excel and Word; excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Experience with Corptax, tax research tools, and BNA/Lucasys fixed asset software is preferred.

  • Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail.
